What a crazy week this has been. I had mentioned that after the race I didn't feel well. It turns out that the kids and I had H1N1. We had all of the symptoms including a very high fever, but we all made it through okay. The kids missed some school but didn't have any complications. I had to go to the doctor with a sinus infection that I developed along the way. After some antibiotics I'm feeling like myself again.
This morning, I woke up and there was a dusting of snow on the ground. I couldn't believe it! I know this is Minnesota, but come on. I had overslept and had to rush to get ready to meet a friend to run. This was my first run since the TC 10 Mile and since I had been sick, so I was excited to get back out there but also a little nervous about my energy level. I quickly threw on my twenty degree weather uniform: my trusty running tights, a technical short sleeved shirt and a quarter zip top. We ran an easy 5 miles and enjoyed the snow covering the trees still showing their fall colors. Strange! The cold air felt surprisingly wonderful and I ran just fine. While I like running in the winter, I hope fall returns for a few more weeks.
The wrapping up of my race schedule and the changing seasons has me thinking a lot about what goals I'm going to set for myself. As I mentioned, I'm going to try to get into the NYC Marathon 2010, but that is very far away. I want to roller ski and cross country ski, but I want that to compliment my running this winter, not take away from it. Usually, I lift weights twice a week but I haven't been very consistent about that the last couple of months. I would like to work on that so that my legs are strong enough to pick up the marathon training when it is time.
All of those plans are great, but I need a race close enough that I can plan around. I think I need a half marathon on my schedule. Maybe a race in December like the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon? Doesn't that sound like fun? Or maybe an early spring half marathon? Any suggestions?

Hey: Sorry to hear you and the kidlets were sick -- but glad you are up and out again.
Fargo isn't a bad 1/2 -- it is in early May. I think there are about 5 of us running it next year.
We had 4 soccer games in the snow today. Only in Minnesota!
Glad you are feeling better. I was considering LV too. Told my sister I'd do it if she would do the half. Not sure what she has decided.
Oh my gosh! H1N1? Wow. Glad you are all doing better! I have heard good things about RNR (rock n roll) san antonio too?!
My brother ran Vegas a couple years ago and really liked it.
I was tempted by Tuscan this December but decided against it - but it looks like a great winter race!

Las Vegas is fun. Tucson is downhill. Last Feb we did Birmingham: charming half marathon route.

Glad you feel better. Whew! I have heard that LV is a blast, and I have always wanted to do the Phoenix half or full. We do have a nice race in the STL in spring :)

A friend of mine is a coach at a school in northern MN, and she was lamenting that they had to cancel their tennis matches this weekend on account of snow! What a state we live in! :)
Disney has been advertising some kind of Princess half marathon in the spring. I'm not sure when.
So sorry you had the dreaded swine flu, but glad you all got through it OK.

NYC is so cool. Expensive but everyone should do it once... I have never done Vegas but a co-worker has did the half many times and loved it. I think you should try the Superior 25K on the spring schedule... Off the road and onto a rugged trail?
